Cookies and browser storage

Free learning and play. No wagers or prizes. Accounts for people aged 18+.

Necessary storage supports requested sign-in, session protection and selected settings. Language, pace, hints and mode preferences can remain until changed or cleared. Session information follows the session/sign-in lifetime. Cookies and localStorage differ: localStorage normally persists between visits, while sessionStorage normally lasts for the tab session.

Principal browser storage items
  • Requested preferences: belot.coach.lang, belot.coach.paceMs, belot.coach.legalHints, belot.coach.trainingMode — until changed or cleared.
  • Sign-in: oidc.user:<authority>:<client> (a key template, not a real account value) stores the login in localStorage across visits until sign-out or clearing; provider expiry still applies. Short-lived sign-in state uses sessionStorage. belot.oneTap.suppressed remembers dismissal/sign-out until changed or cleared.
  • Requested account deletion uses sessionStorage: belot.account-deletion-review is a one-use, five-minute review receipt tied to the account; belot.account-closed records that deletion was accepted until explicit sign-in, clearing or the tab session ends. These support confirmation/status, rather than optional analytics.
  • Optional sessionStorage receipts: belot.analytics-login-method.v1, belot.analytics-login-success.v1 (valid up to five minutes for login confirmation) and belot.analytics-practice-attempt.v1. They remain until consumed, cleared or the tab session ends; full refusal clears optional analytics receipts.

The optional purposes are separate: usage statistics by Google Analytics, and interaction replay/heatmaps by Microsoft Clarity. Both start off until you choose. Accept, reject or save individual settings. belot.analytics-consent.v2 stores purposes, notice version and decision time for up to 180 days per browser/domain. A different domain, device or browser may ask separately.

Google Analytics uses, for example, _ga and _ga_*, with published default lifetimes up to two years, subject to browser/configuration limits. Clarity uses _clck and _clsk to recognise visits and connect sessions; other Microsoft cookies are described in the provider's list. See also Google Analytics cookies. Optional event-delivery guards use sessionStorage, including belot.analytics-receipts.v2. Full refusal/expiry clears these optional receipts. Withdrawal stops the relevant future collection and clears that vendor's cookies the site can access; it cannot automatically remove all older provider data or cookies on other domains. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of prior processing.

External sign-in and resources such as fonts on other pages can create separate requests despite refusing analytics; this page needs no external fonts or sign-in. Browser controls can also manage storage, although clearing necessary data may sign you out or reset preferences.
